When applying natural oils, it is important to understand your unique skin type and needs. Learning about and your skin type can help you recognize what your skin specifically needs to look and feel nourished and healthy. And while you may have a certain skin type now, recognize that it may evolve over time, especially during hormonal shifts or life changes.
Some basics about skin types:
- Dry skin produces less sebum than normal skin
- Oily skin has heightened sebum production
- Combination skin has a mixture of both skin types, and can result in both dry patches and acne-prone areas (like the T-zone)
- Balanced skin is neither too oily or too dry, with an even skin tone
Knowing your skin type can be helpful in understanding which facial oil is best for you, where you may need it the most, and how often facial oils should be used.
For Dry Skin
Add a few drops of facial oil to your moisturizer, mix it in your palm, and apply gently in circular motions. This should be done in the morning and at night, with your nighttime routine including a cream-based moisturizer with your facial oil. Gentle exfoliation should be done every few days to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores.
For Dehydrated Skin
In the morning, apply moisturizer and then follow with facial oil. Add a few drops to your fingers, rub the oil with both hands so it's warmed up, then pat on areas where skin feels extra dry. Layering oil on top of your moisturizer prevents moisture loss. At night, follow the same routine with a cream-based moisturizer. Retinol Face Cream is great for this. Gently exfoliate every few days to remove dead skin cells.
For Both Dry and Dehydrated Skin Types
If your skin feels tight after washing your face, then it's time to replace your face wash. We recommend a cream base or gel face wash to prevent stripping your skin of its natural oils.
For Oily Skin
We recommend using our Uplifting Facial Oil, at night only. Add a few drops to your moisturizer, and dab gently over entire face. We also encourage using toners at night, to help balance your skin’s pH and oil production.
For Combination Skin
We recommend adding a few drops of facial oil to your moisturizer. This can be applied in the morning and at night.
And remember, a little goes a long way. Facial oils are powerful and effective, and using only two to three drops can be enough to revitalize your skin and produce the benefits you’re looking for. When applying, dab or pat oil onto your skin, which pushes the vitamins and nutrients into your pores. Gentle application ensures you don’t unnecessarily tug or irritate facial skin.
