How To Keep Under Eye Wrinkles At Bay

What is the first feature you notice on someone’s face?

For most people, it’s the eyes. And unfortunately, our eyes tend to age before any other part of the face. Why? The area surrounding our eyes, the eye contour, is made of the thinnest skin on the entire body, and as we age we lose collagen and elastin (plumping proteins) in that area, which results in wrinkles and sagging associated with aging. We also have fewer sebaceous glands in the eye area. These glands are responsible for lubricating skin with oils, and the result of fewer glands is, unfortunately, deeper wrinkles around your face’s most prominent focal point.

Preventing Under Eye Wrinkles

Under eye wrinkles are a normal, natural part of growing older. However, there are lifestyle steps you can take to reduce their appearance and fight signs of premature aging.

Hydrate skin

First, hydrated skin is the best defense against wrinkles. Start your day by drinking two glasses of water as soon as you’re awake. By doing so, you’ll help flush toxins from the body and maintain your skin’s elasticity. If prefer to drink something besides water, green tea is also hydrating and packed with antioxidants, which are excellent at fighting premature aging.

healthy diet

A diet rich in fruits, leafy green vegetables, fermented foods and Omega fatty acids can also have a big effect .  These food groups are essential for maintaining healthy-looking skin, as they contain various vitamins, antioxidants, amino acids, healthy bacteria and minerals.

exercise

Lastly, daily exercise not only improves your health, but it also slows skin cell aging and improves blood circulation. The result is nourished skin cells that give a radiant, youthful appearance.

UV protection

The two biggest culprits for increasing under eye wrinkles: UV radiation and smoking. Sun exposure can break down collagen, especially in the sensitive under-eye area. Protect your skin by wearing UV protection sunglasses, and use sunscreen with zinc or titanium, as they effectively help protect the skin from UV damage. Smoking also damages collagen and elastin in the body. Nicotine (in addition to the 7,000 other chemicals in cigarettes) affects blood vessels throughout the body and reduces blood flow, which is necessary for healthy skin tone and texture.

Natural Treatments for Under Eye Wrinkles

While many injection and laser therapies can result in fewer lines and wrinkles (Botox, ablations and many more), they can be costly and often need to be done regularly to maintain their effects. Alternatively, natural methods of taking care of your skin can reduce your exposure to chemicals and also have lasting effects.

Use plant based oils

Essential oils at the top of our list for their benefits to the skin, inside and out. Many plant-derived essential oils are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and can even mimic the skin’s natural oil production and lock in moisture (like Jojoba). Our Anti-Aging Exotic Facial Oil is packed with fatty acids, antioxidants, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, and many other natural ingredients hand-picked to nourish the skin.

moisturizers with vitamins and fatty acids

Rosehip oil (found in our Rosehip & Hibiscus Facial Lotion) boasts anti-aging effects with oleic fatty acid, linoleic acid and vitamin C. These fatty acids and vitamins help reduce scars and fine lines, and promote the skin’s regeneration.

facial oils

Sandalwood oil also contains high amount of antioxidants, and helps skin cells regenerate to decrease fine lines and wrinkles. Our Uplifting Facial Oil uses this essential oil, along with Helichrysum Flower (medicinal plant) oil, to rejuvenate skin, help remove free radicals and reduces wrinkles. This facial oil blend also contains antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antibacterial properties, giving your skin an all-around healthy boost of care.

No matter your skin type, using all natural facial oils and lotions can help to dramatically improve and smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Using facials oil daily, such as the Uplifting Facial Oil or Anti-Aging Exotic Facial Oil, can truly deliver visible benefits you’ll fall in love with.  Before going to bed, simply apply few drops of oil under eyes and gently massage, leaving it overnight to rinse in the morning.

Beautiful skin starts from within, and what you put in your body is just as important (or even more) than what you put on it. Give your body what it needs -- nutrients from food and drinks -- to work properly to support healthy skin. And when it comes to topical solutions for skin care,  essential oils that mimic the body’s production of natural oils can have a big effect on your skin’s health and appearance. Everything we eat and apply becomes a part of us, and the healthier those ingredients are, the better our skin looks and feels.
